Mahaveer jayanti 2024: Mahavir Jayanti: At Bharat Mandapam in the nation’s capital, Prime Minister Modi on Sunday officially opened the 2550th Bhagwan Mahaveer Nirvana Mahotsav.

On the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 2550th Bhagwan Mahaveer Nirvana Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam in the nation’s capital on Sunday. At the occasion, he also unveiled a commemorative coin and stamp.

“Bharat Mandapam today witnesses the beginning of the 2550th Nirvan Mahotsav of Lord Mahavira,” Prime Minister Modi stated in his address to the Mahotsav.I send my best wishes for Mahavir Jayanti to everyone in the nation. It is consoling to be a part of such a program in the midst of electoral chaos.”

The Prime Minister went on to say that India is a safe refuge for mankind as well as the longest continuously surviving civilization in the globe. “It is India that considers the collective rather than just itself…India is the country that discusses policy and destiny,” he stated.

Prime Minister Modi stated, “Today the world caught in conflict is expecting peace from India,” in reference to the ongoing hostilities around the world. Our foreign policies and expanding capabilities are credited with creating this new India. But let me tell you, a huge part of this is our cultural image. India has assumed this position now because we confidently uphold nonviolence and the truth in international forums.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi hailed people on Mahavir Jayanti and stated that the nation is inspired to establish a “Viksit Bharat” by Lord Mahavir’s message of peace and kindness.

What is Jayanti Mahavir?

The birthday of Mahavir Janma Kalyanak, the founder of Jainism, is celebrated on Mahavir Jayanti. The festival is observed by the Jain community as a way to propagate the teachings of Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism, and to promote peace and harmony.

In the Jain calendar, the festival is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the Chaitra month, which occurs on April 21 this year.

On Mahavir Jayanti, people celebrate by going in a procession led by a chariot-pulling idol of Mahavir and chanting religious hymns along the route. On this day, Jains also observe fasts, give to charity, worship, visit Jain temples, lead communal prayers, and practice meditation. Eating satvik cuisine, which is a home-cooked vegetarian dinner devoid of onions or garlic, is a main event of the festivities.
