What is the purported liquor fraud in Chhattisgarh, and what accusations are made against Anil Tuteja?

The purported alcohol scandal is connected to claims of corruption involving authorities and powerful individuals in Chhattisgarh’s liquor business. The ED claims that there were several anomalies between 2019 and 2022 involving bribery from distillers by representatives of the state-run liquor retailer, CSMCL.

The investigation team filed a chargesheet in July of last year, alleging that the ‘liquor scam’ that allegedly started in 2019 produced ₹2,161 crore in corruption proceeds. The money ought to have gone to the state exchequer, according to the ED. Anwar Dhebar and Anil Tuteja’s alcohol syndicate allegedly stole money from “every” bottle of liquor sold in Chhattisgarh, according to the ED.
