‘One Nation One Election’  Delhi, New.Today, the President received the report from the high-level committee on One Nation, One Election, which was led by the former President Ram Nath Kovind. The viability of holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha, state assemblies, and local authorities nationwide has been reported.

According to a release, the panel delivered the 18,626-page report to President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Since its founding on September 2, 2023, the report has been the product of 191 days of research and intensive meetings with experts and stakeholders.

The Kovind group has suggested that the first phase of elections for the Lok Sabha and assembly be conducted concurrently, with the second phase consisting of local body elections to be done within a hundred days.

The Kovind panel stated in its report that simultaneous elections can contribute to the realization of India’s goals.

Voting simultaneously will strengthen the democratic foundation and promote social harmony and development.

“Simultaneous voting will greatly enhance transparency, inclusiveness, ease of access and confidence of voters,” the committee stated.

The Kovind panel has advised preparing ahead of time for the simultaneous staging of elections by providing security troops, equipment, and labor.

According to the report, all state assembly may hold their first simultaneous polls for a duration that extends to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The Kovind panel further stated that new elections may be held for the remaining five-year term in the case of a hung House or a motion of no confidence.

Elections for the Lok Sabha and assemblies may take place concurrently in the first phase. The second phase will see local body elections within a hundred days.
