Mumbai, September 15, 2024 — This year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations have taken a creative turn with a unique theme that’s catching everyone’s eye. Shivani Majmudar, a resident of Andheri East, Mumbai, has chosen a “Medical City” theme for her Ganesh Chaturthi decorations, blending festive cheer with a thoughtful nod to healthcare.
The elaborate decoration features an impressive array of common medicines and surgical items. Towers constructed from pain balms, relief gels, and Soframycin tubes form the skyline, while Candid powder, antiseptic Savlon, and pain relief sprays serve as the structural elements for bridges and metro stations. Medicine strips create intricate roads, and pain relief tablets shape tunnels. Bandages are molded into tracks, and trains are crafted from crepe bandages, showcasing a blend of ingenuity and artistry.
Medical tapes are used to build coiled racks, and Vicks VapoRub, combined with Kanthil, is creatively transformed into trees. Street lights are illustrated using Kanthil and inhalers, adding a realistic touch to the vibrant display.
The choice of materials is both innovative and eco-conscious. All items are kept in their original packaging to avoid waste and will be donated to old age homes, NGOs, and other charitable organizations after the festival. Additionally, the Ganesh idol itself is crafted from approximately 300 cotton rolls, standing 4.10 feet tall, and will also be donated post-celebration.
The festivities will span five days, with the Ganesh idol being immersed at home using a traditional sadu matti idol for the visarjan. This year’s celebration highlights Shivani Majmudar’s dedication to merging creativity with environmental responsibility, making it a memorable and meaningful part of Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi festivities.
