Neeraj Chopra at the Paris Olympics / Defending champion Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal with a season’s best throw of 89.45 in the javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics while Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won the gold.
Neeraj’s second throw was his only valid throw in which he threw 89. 45 meters. Five of his attempts were unsuccessful. At the same time, Nadeem set a new Olympic record with the second throw of 92.97 meters. He threw the sixth and final throw of 91.79 meters. This is Pakistan’s first Olympic medal since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Anderson Peters of Grenada was third.
A comeback after a poor start
Neeraj won the medal after his first attempt failed. He failed in his first attempt. Meanwhile, Nadeem secured the first position with a strong throw. Neeraj threw 89.45 in the second attempt and came second. The pressure and rush to get past Nadeem’s throw was clearly visible on Neeraj. That’s why he went on a rampage.

Neeraj could not win a gold medal for sure but he still managed to etch his name in history. Neeraj became the first Indian track and field athlete to win two Olympic medals. He also became the fourth Indian to win an individual silver medal at the event.
