Russia blames US for policies that fuel hatred
“Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the United States should” “take stock” “of its policies to incite hatred after the shooting at Trump’s rally.”
He claimed that U.S. funding to Ukraine was being used to incite attacks against the Russian president, and suggested that the U.S. invest more in domestic security instead.
“Perhaps it would be better to use this money for the US police and other services that are supposed to ensure law and order in the United States?”
Republican lawmakers have called for an expedited investigation into possible security lapses at Trump’s rally, demanding a hearing on the shooting of a Republican in Congress.
Mike Johnson, speaker of the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, said panels in the chamber would soon bring officials from the Secret Service, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI to the hearing.
The House Oversight Panel called Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to testify on July 22.
Former Secret Service agent Joseph Lasrosa, who worked on the president’s detail, previously said there was certain to be a “thorough review” of the incident.
“There’s going to be massive restructuring,” Lasrosa said. “That can’t happen.”
