Ethics & Standards

At The Bharat Express, we believe that a free and independent press is essential to a healthy democracy. To maintain the trust of our readers in Chhattisgarh and across India, our journalists, editors, and contributors are required to adhere to the following strict standards of professional conduct.

1. Independence from Influence

Political Neutrality

We do not campaign for any political party, candidate, or ideology. Our reporting focuses on facts and the impact of policies on the public, not on promoting a specific agenda.

Financial Integrity

Our news coverage is not for sale. We do not accept payment, gifts, or favors in exchange for positive coverage. Advertisers and sponsors have no say in our editorial decisions and do not preview stories before they are published.

2. Professional Conduct

Interacting with the Public

When gathering news, our reporters must identify themselves clearly to sources. We do not use undercover methods or deception unless there is no other way to uncover a story of vital public interest, and such methods are approved by the Editor-in-Chief.

Respect for Privacy

We respect the privacy of individuals. We exercise caution when reporting on the private lives of public figures, doing so only when it is relevant to their public duties. We show special sensitivity when dealing with children, victims of crime, and inexperienced sources.

3. Accuracy and Context

No Distortion

We do not alter images or video in a way that misleads the audience.

Context Matters

We strive to present the full picture. Selectively quoting a source to change the meaning of their words is strictly prohibited.

Headlines

Headlines and captions must accurately reflect the story’s content. We avoid sensationalism or clickbait that deceives the reader.

4. Conflict of Interest

Disclosure

Staff members must disclose any personal, financial, or political attachments that might conflict with their journalistic duties.

Recusal

If a journalist has a direct connection to a story (e.g., a family member is involved), they must recuse themselves from covering that story to ensure impartiality.

5. Social Media Usage

Our journalists are expected to maintain professional standards on their personal social media accounts. They must avoid making statements that could compromise the perceived neutrality of The Bharat Express.

6. Accountability

We are accountable to our readers. When we make a mistake, we admit it. We encourage our audience to hold us to these high standards.
